‘Makarabo Nthako (Nthabiseng Matjama)
Chairperson
Makarabo is a dedicated gender activist and human rights advocate committed to fostering equality and balanced participation of men and women in all spheres of life. With over 20 years of experience in community development, she has worked extensively on critical issues such as gender equality, food security, HIV/AIDS, and civic education. Her work has been instrumental in driving social change and empowering marginalized communities.
As a Mandela Washington Fellowship Reader, Makarabo played a key role in selecting future African leaders in 2021 to 2024. She also serves as an ambassador for UNITAR, championing digital skills development among youth and women across sub-Saharan Africa. Her leadership extends to Gender Links, where she serves as Secretary of the Board of Directors, advocating for vulnerable women and ensuring gender justice is at the forefront of development initiatives. Additionally, she is an elected member of the Gender Links SADC Regional Committee, focusing on organizational development issues.
Beyond policy and advocacy, Makarabo is deeply rooted in grassroots empowerment. She has spearheaded income-generating programs for women in her village, enabling economic independence and fostering sustainable livelihoods. A visionary leader, she remains committed to bridging societal gaps, elevating voices, and creating opportunities for women and youth in underserved communities.

‘Mantaopane Lets’opa (Itumeleng Tjotsi)
Deputy Chairperson
Mantoapane holds a BA in Development Studies and Philosophy, as well as MA in Development Studies. With eight years experience in education and development sector. She successfully led Unique High School from 2016–2021, improving its academic performance and reputation. Additionally, under her leadership, EPCCMC successfully completed its project on intensifying waste management initiatives in Sekamaneng, Berea (2022–2023). These roles have equipped her with the ability to oversee government structures, develop policies and drive strategic initiatives that align with an organization’s mission and long-term vision.
